Everyday hair care: protect without promising a cure
Reducing traction and harsh treatments can help prevent damage. These habits do not explain every case of shedding or replace assessment of possible scalp disease.

Look at what you do to your hair
Vigorous brushing, very hot tools and harsh treatments can damage hair. Reviewing these habits can help without turning every action into a source of blame. Losing hair does not mean you caused the problem by washing it incorrectly.
A gentler routine can be a starting point: reduce mechanical stress, take care with heat and chemical products, and avoid hairstyles that pull continuously. If a practice causes discomfort, note it and mention it at your appointment.
Traction has a specific role
Repeated tension from some hairstyles can cause traction hair loss. Damage to follicles can make it permanent. It would be wrong to promise that every affected area will recover simply after changing hairstyle.
Reducing traction does not mean all thinning has this cause. History and scalp assessment matter, especially when change continues or other signs appear.
Review your routine without a shopping list
- Which hairstyles keep your hair under tension?
- How often do you use heated tools or harsh treatments?
- Do particular practices cause discomfort or irritation?
- Which products would you like to show a doctor or pharmacist?
A list of habits is more useful than a league table of “anti-hair-loss” shampoos. A cosmetic product and treatment for a particular alopecia have different purposes. If there is pain, inflammation or scaling, ask for assessment and describe what you have noticed rather than covering the question with trial-and-error purchases.
