Frequently asked questions about hair loss
These answers help you find your way and prepare for a consultation. They do not identify your cause of hair loss or choose a treatment from symptoms.
Does more hair in the shower mean pattern baldness?
Not necessarily. Increased shedding and thinning can have different or overlapping explanations. Note when you noticed the change and describe it to a clinician, without turning a count into a diagnosis.
Should I have every blood test before the appointment?
No. Investigations depend on your history and examination. Bring existing results and ask which tests, if any, would answer a specific question in your case.
Can a supplement be enough?
It is not a universal solution. A deficiency may need correcting, but hair alone does not identify it. Nutrients and herbal products can also cause adverse effects or interactions.
Are oral and topical minoxidil the same choice?
No. The route and precautions differ. Do not switch them yourself or swallow a skin solution. Comparative studies do not establish equivalence for everyone.
Does the AIFA warning mean finasteride is banned?
No. The 2025 update introduces safety measures and retains distinctions between formulations. The benefit-risk assessment concerns approved uses, rather than every possible use.
Does a transplant prevent all future hair loss?
No. Hair that has not been transplanted can continue to thin. Suitability and realistic results require assessment of donor and recipient areas.
Can I send a photograph here for a diagnosis?
This project publishes general information and does not diagnose from photographs. Personal images can be useful notes to discuss with your clinician alongside your history and examination.
